WEB GEMS- Bot 6th: Ryne Sandberg robbed Lou Gehrig of a base hit.
Hank Greenberg smacked 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Rube Waddell allowed
Eeyore to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the General Motors
Corporate Jets man-handled the Bernstein Bears - the final score was 17 to
6.
Greenberg was unconscious all day. The Bernstein fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He doubled
plating all three baserunners in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run bomb in
the 2nd inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 20th of the season) in
the 4th inning and lined a base-hit in the 8th inning. General Motors
provided plenty of action in the 2nd inning with 7 runs on 6 hits. General
Motors had many opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate
innings.
Waddell(5-6) finished the game allowing 6 runs in the victory. Bob Feller(4-4)
was tagged with the loss.
