Third baseman Mike Schmidt rocketed 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Al Spalding
pitched a complete game as the Wyoming Triops defeated the New Zealand Kiwis
by the score of 8 to 6 at Triops Stadium.
Schmidt really 'lit it up' for Wyoming. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in
the 5th inning and hit a bases-empty home run (his 16th of the season) in the
7th inning. Wyoming had a total of 11 hits for the game.
Spalding(3-1) finished the game allowing 6 runs in the victory. Gaylord
Perry(3-6) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 4 homeruns in 8 innings of
work.
Schmidt was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying
off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes
along.'
