Sal Maglie pitched a 2 hit shutout as the General Motors Corporate Jets topped
the Verona Ridge Roadrunners in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 0 at Roadrunner
Park.
Neither team managed to score in the first nine innings. Finally, General
Motors pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Hank Greenberg started the
inning off right when he drew a walk. Duke Snider next to the plate and he
tripled. Jim Thome then would hit into a fielders choice. Jim Rice struck
out, unable to help the rally. One out later, Ivan Rodriguez was next to the
plate, but was promptly struck out. General Motors had just 3 hits for the
afternoon.
Maglie(1-1) went the distance for the shutout. Bob Gibson(1-4) was hit with
the loss. He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 3 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings.
